Hospitality in Greece dates back to ancient times. Zeus would disguise himself as a poor traveler knocking on doors until he found someone to take him in out of the cold. Greeks are known to open their homes to friends and strangers alike, offering food and shelter to those in need. It is common to be invited inside a village house for coffee or fruit from one’s garden when passing by. This is much more than just being hospitable, Greeks take this opportunity to share their lives with others. This is Philoxenia: the kindness to strangers.
We invite you to experience the “Art of Philoxenia,” our daily breakfast gathering. The meal is served family style at our community table where new acquaintances are made and stories are shared. Sip mimosas, meet new friends, and enjoy delicacies made with love for you.
There is a very special tree here at Two Goats Villas near the old wine press. This tree symbolizes the dream we had of one day of living on this beautiful island. We are very blessed to have experienced the kindness of strangers on Karpathos who supported our dream with encouragement and well wishes.
We invite you to stop by the tree. Write down a wish for a stranger and tie it to the tree. Possibly somebody in need or someone you’ve met with a dream. This is the true spirit of Philoxenia. You might be pleasantly surprised to find out your wish has even come true before your stay is over.
We are proud to share with you our “Keeping Karpathos Green” initiative! It’s our small part in keeping the beautiful landscape and crystal waters free of unnecessary trash and debris. Please enjoy and use the complimentary refillable water bottles and jute shopping bag (great for the beach as well) provided for you upon your arrival. Pamper your skin with our luxurious Rituals toiletries in refillable dispensers. Any opportunity to reduce the use of plastic on the island is a win for all!
Craig is your personal concierge at Two Goats Villas. Please reach out if you would like to book any of the services below. He is also available if you need directions or information about the island.
